Reorganisation PMO for a chemicals player

Supported this chemicals player's implementation of a new customer-centric organisation structure.

As PMO leads we recruited the teams to lead the transition, led key workstreams, and consolidated across them. Our teams developed and rolled out detailed BU, regional and operational designs, and the supporting systems and processes, driving successful transition to the new organisation.

Context

The Head of Group Strategy of this global fine chemicals and biotech player was leading the transition from product-led to customer-segment driven organisation.

Eden McCallum had supported the organisation in developing structural options, defining a shortlist of options in more depth, and selecting the final structure.

When this model was agreed upon, we were asked to stay on to shape and run the PMO and help client teams to drive the implementation, from detailed design through delivery.

Approach

The first stage of the implementation required complex three-way integrations to build new customer segment-based units, as well as the shaping of the interfaces between them.

We recruited the PMO, set up and led key workstreams, and consolidated outputs. The programme, underpinned by design principles agreed up-front, included detailed BU, regional and operational designs, as well as the systems and commercial processes to support them.

Impact

The new organisation went live within 9 months of the announcement.

Today, the new customer-led divisional structure is enabling enhanced cross-selling and the offer of ‘solutions’ rather than single molecule products.

And our consultants have provided continued support to selected workstreams through the transition, helping keep implementation on target.
