A steep learning curve with amazing support

BA Philosophy, Politics & Economics
Having studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at university, I was looking for a job that would require a blend of qualitative and quantitative skills, but also provide opportunities to work closely with others and develop lots of positive working relationships. Consulting seemed to tick all of these boxes, and allow me to gain exposure to a wide range of industries and business challenges. I remember coming out of my Eden McCallum interviews feeling very excited. The case studies that we had discussed were truly interesting business problems, and convinced me that this type of work was what I wanted to do. The Partners who interviewed me were keen to get to know me as a person, and it felt like they were willing me to do well rather than wanting to ‘catch me out’.
Over the last few years since that interview, I have gained experience in sectors ranging from education to outsourcing, and software to lab equipment. On the way I have built financial models, interviewed industry experts, presented to clients, and conducted workshops. Because of the Eden McCallum business model, analysts are jointly problem-solving with experts in their field from an early stage. I learned a huge amount about how business works in a very short space of time, and could feel my skills improving with every project.
While the learning curve is steep, and the work can be difficult, I have received amazing support from mentors, colleagues and consultants throughout. With any challenge I have faced – whether it be how to present something on a slide, or balancing competing priorities – I have always found someone in the office willing to share some advice. Eden McCallum is such a positive, entrepreneurial environment, and I feel very privileged to have worked with so many bright and kind people.
Looking back, I can’t believe how much I have developed both as a consultant and as a person in the space of just a couple of years. Whatever I do next in my career, I know that the skills and relationships I have developed at Eden McCallum will set me up well.
