A flying start

After graduating from university, I wasn’t yet sure what career path to take. I knew I wanted to be in a role that was interesting, challenging and that allowed me to make a tangible impact in some way. I was also looking for a friendly and close-knit working culture that placed an emphasis on wellbeing and work-life balance. I realised that finding both these things in one place could be challenging. Soon after graduating, I spent three months interning at a boutique consultancy where I discovered that consulting was the right fit for me. I was drawn to the variety it offered, and the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills, including problem-solving, market research, communication, creativity, and both qualitative and quantitative analysis, all while tackling interesting and complex business problems.
I then joined Eden McCallum for a summer internship, where I worked on a four-week due diligence project for a marketing procurement software client. It was my first experience taking on an end-to-end role on a client project, where I was working very closely with an experienced independent consultant and was trusted with real responsibility from day one. The experience made it clear how much and how quickly I could develop professionally at Eden McCallum.
Choosing to stay on as a full-time Analyst was the best decision I could have made. I started alongside a cohort of other new Analysts and together we embarked on an induction period where we worked on a practice case as a team. The experience allowed us to really bond as a group. The diverse range of sectors we are exposed to and the opportunity to work with experienced consultants and industry experts with backgrounds from so many top-tier consulting firms, make Eden McCallum a truly unique place to work. As a new Analyst, I have already had the opportunity to work on several fascinating projects, in sectors ranging from oceanographic exploration to culinary workwear. I have managed interview programs, conducted expert interviews, carried out market research and competitor benchmarking, performed market sizing, analysed M&A targets and potential buyers, and presented to senior executives.
The support system and emphasis on wellbeing at Eden McCallum is also amazing. Our weekly Analyst and Associate Consultant check-ins, weekly ‘temperature checks’ and the mentor system at Eden McCallum ensure that no one is left behind. The frequent socials, monthly whole-office lunches, pub trips, and of course, the much-anticipated annual ski trip, make working at Eden McCallum a truly enjoyable and rewarding experience.
