Strategic plan for a growing environmental initiative

Developed a strategic and operational plan to accelerate the impact of an international initiative that raises awareness of nature-based solutions’ role in mitigating the effects of climate change.

Based in reaffirmed purpose and outcomes, and with a clear line of sight to funding, we worked to define the organisation’s 5-year strategy, mandate and governance. Together we went on to design the operating model and resourcing needed to enable successful delivery, and to develop the business case and implementation plan.

Context

Nature-based solutions (NBS) had to date not really featured in mainstream discussions on climate change but current science demonstrated that NBS can provide around a third of the solution.

The Nature4Climate initiative was established to increase investment in and action on nature-based solutions in support of the 2015 Paris climate agreement. It is a global initiative supported by 16 partner organisations.

Two years after N4C’s launch, our project was to help the team clearly articulate their 5-year plan and ensure they had the mandate, resources and setup to accelerate their strategy.

Approach

We worked with N4C to define their 5-year plan, first reaffirming the organisation’s purpose and outcomes, creating a clear line of sight to funding, and clarifying the future strategy, mandate, and governance.

Together we then designed the operating model, quantified the required resourcing and designed a measurement framework. We built the financial model to support the business case, and finally designed a high-level implementation plan to set up N4C for further success.

Impact

Our work together delivered a fully-costed strategic and operational plan for the near future, which became the foundation for critical conversations with funders, partners and N4C’s founder, The Nature Conservancy.
